Ricardo Uauy is currently a Professor of Public Health Nutrition at the University of Chile and London School of Hygiene and Topical Medicine. He received his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Chile in 1972 and followed with his Ph.D. in Nutritional Biochemistry from MIT in 1977. He was the Director of Public Health Nutrition at the Institute of Nutrition from 1994‐2002 and from the years of 2005‐2009 he was the President of the International Union of Nutrition Sciences. He has served on multiple committees for WHO and FAO, such as the Committee on Protein Energy in 1981 and Committee on Human Energy Needs in 2001. Mr. Uauy has received many awards for his distinguished work, including the 2003 Lawton Chile International Lecturer Award NIH, the 2005 Spanish Nutrition Society Award and PAHO/WHO Abraham Horwitz Award for Leadership in Inter‐American Health, the 2006 Kellog’s International Nutrition Award from the ASN, and the 2008 Rank Lecture Award and British Nutrition Foundation Price.
